Opera Houses and Music Theatres

How many music theatres and opera houses are there in Germany?

By far, the largest part of the range of music theatre performances in Germany is made up of publicly sustained or predominantly public-funded theatres. This is a total of 83 facilities at 94 locations; they are divided into state theatres, municipal theatres and regional theatres. The German Music Information Centre (miz) lists these houses with their locations and management structures.
In addition to the publicly funded theatres, there are a number of mostly smaller, privately owned music theatres that perform various repertoires across Germany. They include, among others: Chamber operas and musicals.
