The German Music Information Centre (miz) lists publicly funded professional theatre orchestras or concert orchestras with theatrical duties, concert orchestras and radio orchestras in North Rhine-Westphalia, which operate all year round with a permanent staff and do not play purely light music or marching music. The information on the number of positions of the orchestras and their collective agreements are based on the ‘unisono-Planstellenstatistik’, partly supplemented by more current information from the ensembles. Publicly funded symphony orchestras in Germany are mainly financed from funds from municipalities, states and, in individual cases, from the federal government or from funds from broadcasting companies.
