What are the responsibilities of concert and tour promoters?
Concert and tour promoters are responsible for the planning, organisation and staging of music events. Their responsibilities include creative, commercial, organisational and logistical tasks, in particular: booking artists, selecting venues, negotiating contracts and fees, artist care, drawing up an event and safety plan, providing technical equipment (e.g. lighting and sound systems) and infrastructure (e.g. toilet facilities, car parks), internal and external staff planning (e.g. technical staff, security personnel), obtaining licences for copyright and usage rights, budget planning and payment of contributions to Germany’s social insurance scheme for artists, the Künstlersozialkasse (KSK), ticket sales and advertising. Whilst concert promoters are responsible for the planning and staging of individual concerts, tour promoters organise national and international concert tours or concert series featuring solo artists, bands, DJs and ensembles.
The German Music Information Centre (miz) lists members of the National Association of the Concert and Event Industry (Bundesverband der Konzert- und Veranstaltungswirtschaft, or BDKV) as well as other music companies, provided information has been submitted. Institutions whose main focus is on holding a single event or performing at a single venue are not mentioned.
