Lucerne Festival Academy 2024

Time to celebrate a major anniversary!For 20 years now, the Lucerne Festival Academy has enabled talented young musicians from all over the world to dedicate themselves to the music of our time. Over a period of three weeks, you will work on a diverse repertoire that ranges from the milestones of the 20th and 21st centuries to brand-new scores. Leading performers of contemporary music serve as coaches and offer in-depth workshops. The Lucerne Festival Contemporary Leaders, who are former Academy members, will also be on hand as mentors during rehearsals to pass on their experience. All participants of the Academy play in the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra (LFCO) and additionally join together in various ensembles to perform events as part of the Festival’s related programming.

To mark its anniversary, the Lucerne Festival Academy is looking back and also ahead. The program will include works by the Academy’s founder Pierre Boulez (including Rituel in memoriam Bruno Maderna) and its Artistic Director Wolfgang Rihm (including In-Schrift). You will also premiere new works by Andrew Norman as well as by Lisa Streich and Beat Furrer, the two composers-in-residence of the 2024 Summer Festival. Furrer himself will conduct. You will work with Sir George Benjamin to rehearse his Concerto for Orchestra and on Morton Feldman’s Coptic Light. You will also collaborate with the trumpeter Simon Höfele and the conductor Ruth Reinhardt, both of whom were significant influenced by their work as former Academy participants.
