Musical instruments are manufactured in industrial companies and numerous traditional artisanal workshops. There are also workshops in Stutensee that specialise in manufacturing or repairing/tuning pianos and harpsichords.
The German Music Information Centre (miz) lists the members of the Association of German Musical Instrument Manufacturers (Bundesverband der deutschen Musikinstrumentenhersteller, or BdMH), the Association of German Piano Builders (Bund Deutscher Klavierbauer, or BDK) and the Federal Musical Instrument Makers Guild (Bundesinnungsverband für das Musikinstrumenten-Handwerk). The miz also names other companies if the relevant information has been submitted. In addition, the miz also lists the experts publicly appointed and sworn in by the Chambers of Crafts (HWK) and the Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHK) in the individual areas of musical instrument making. Workshops that are affiliated with a specialist music shop are not specifically listed. These are described in the entries of the respective specialist music shops.
