What are music cafés and music bars?

Music cafés and music bars are establishments that combine live music with food and drink. Music cafés offer live music in a relaxed atmosphere alongside food and drink, often during the day or in the early evening. Music bars, on the other hand, are usually open in the evenings and at night. Both venues often focus on concerts featuring pop music, although there are also specialised venues, such as jazz cafés and jazz bars. Cafés and bars with a music programme are mainly found in towns and cities but can also be found sporadically in rural areas.
Of the large number of music cafés and music bars in Germany, the German Music Information Centre (miz) lists those that offer regular live music performances and a minimum number of professional concerts.
