The majority of professional musicians in Germany do not only pursue their musical and artistic activities: Only 30 percent live exclusively from music. Almost half of the musicians also work in music education, and just under a third do non-musical activities to earn a living. Differences are clearly visible depending on the type of employment and gender.
The data are based on a nationwide, cross-genre representative survey conducted by the Institut für Demoskopie Allensbach (IfD) on behalf of the miz.
