Music Museums and Exhibitions

Which music museums are there in Germany?

Numerous exhibitions and institutions in Germany deal with the collection, conservation and communication of the posthumous estates of famous composers or musical personalities, the preservation and presentation of products of musical instrument builders or other aspects of musical life. They are sustained by the federal government, states, cities and municipalities, foundations or, in some cases, associations and private individuals.
The German Music Information Centre (miz) lists the institutions that are part of the working group ‘Music Museums in Germany’; Other institutions that host permanent exhibitions on individual musical personalities are also listed. In addition to the music museums, there are musical instrument museums and collections that are either independent or appear as departments of larger institutions, e. g. state, regional or city museums, museums with a cultural-historical focus or universities.
There are other museums that exhibit musical instruments among other objects; They are not considered due to their mostly small collection size.
