Untwelving

Untwelving is a three-day event situated between festval and conventon, dedicated to contemporary microtonal and xenharmonic music. Its focus lies on musical practces, theories, tools, and discourses beyond twelve-tone equal temperament.

We invite musicians, composers, sound artsts, musicologists, developers, and instrument makers to
submit contributons that engage with alternatve tuning systems, including (but not limited to):

• non-12 TET equal temperaments (EDO/TET tunings)
• just intonaton
• Bohlen–Pierce
• other forms of microtonal, xenharmonic, and experimental pitch systems

Untwelving is explicitly genre-open and interdisciplinary. We welcome contributons from a wide range of contexts — from notated music to club culture, from DIY instruments to theoretcal research, from performance to sofware development.

Beyond presentatons and concerts, Untwelving is conceived as a space for exchange and networking: between diferent scenes, aesthetc positons, and technical approaches within the feld of microtonal and xenharmonic music.

Categories

1. Concerts / Musical Contributions
Live performances or performatve formats from all musical contexts (electronic, instrumental, vocal, hybrid, experimental, club-oriented, notated, or improvised) in which alternatve tuning systems play a central role.

2. Lectures
Theoretcal, historical, or practce-based contributons on topics such as:

• microtonal and xenharmonic tuning systems
• compositonal or performance strategies
• digital forms of knowledge and experience sharing
• social, politcal, or aesthetc questons surrounding non-normatve music practces

3. Presentations / Demos
Presentatons of tools, sofware, hardware, workfows, or research projects that enable or critcally refect microtonal practce.

4. Instrument Exhibition
Presentaton of self-developed, microtonality-friendly musical instruments, controllers, or interfaces. The exhibiton is intended as a space for exchange, demonstraton, and discussion.
